Restaurant Reviews

The Bergen Record (July 3rd, 2008)

"The blue walls and shutters of Vasili’s Taverna evoke the famous Greek island of Santorini; its furniture is as sandy brown as the shores. While this little Greek storefront in Teaneck may not be an exotic European vacation, it’s fresh air of another kind: a satisfying substitute for a pricey, formal dinner out. Here you’ll find a great value: simply prepared food that is hearty, not heavy, served in a pleasant atmosphere by friendly owners. You’ll find some dishes that would be comfortable in a much more expensive restaurant — gorgeous charbroiled whole fish, or sweet and tender calamari in a tangy mixture of orzo and feta cheese. You’ll love more rustic choices like meatballs with crisp crusts and a light, lemony soup you can happily down even in the dog days of summer."

Off The Broiler (April 19th, 2007)

"Recently I got a phone call from Vasili Mastrokostas, who’s food I remembered fondly from A Taste of Greece, a literal hole-in-the-wall takeout place serving homestyle Greek food in River Edge that has but 4 little tables. “Come to my new place in Teaneck!” Vasili said, “It’s bigger, it’s nicer!”. So of course, knowing full well the quality of food this guy was known for in his previous restaurant, I had to go."
